2012 West Coast Adventure, Day 11

Day 11 July 3rd, 2012:

Good evening / morning Meteor Crater, Arizona (near Flagstaff)

Well what I can say for sure, is just when I think the previous day was long…we out do ourselves! Today we saw all of Painted Desert, and Petrified Forest…hiked a few miles in 100 deg SUNNY environments, and was BLOWN away with colors you must see to believe! The landscape was a mix of several places we have seen in the region, and some new things we never saw…Petrified Wood. Something so simple looks so cool…I thought the past few days were a photographic candy store, but today was by far the best region to shoot…We road on several portions of Rt. 66, and stopped at a diner within the entrance of Painted Desert. It was an old Rt. 66 diner, but that portion of highway was removed.

The tail end of New Mexico turned out to be very majestic, and the entrance into Arizona with the red rock is really cool, especially when the light hits it the right way.

For me it was a day of admiring the beauty and landscape, but at the same time , I was thinking about what we did to the Indians …It really was a shame, and is by far the worst thing the US has done to anyone…I mean the region is absolutely beautiful, but absolutely inhabitable, no agriculture whatsoever! Absolutely an embarrassment…

Ok, I’m off my preaching stand today…

Before we checked into our home for the night we stopped by Meteor Crater, and I have to say WOW! It is 1 mile wide crater, and when you see the destruction the meteor made, is beyond comprehension…25 mega a tons worth of explosion. HUGE! There are a few images you may get the scale, but just looking at the 1 mile crater in the enormously vast landscape makes it looks small, until you put perspective to it…Very cool stop.

All and all, the boys had a blast today hiking, and doing a lot of laughing…too many stories to write, but the day was filled with laughter, except when I hit the 10hr day mark, and got grumpy due to the heat, long drive, and miles of hiking up and down big hills, and carrying 30lbs of camera gear! Oh yeah…I will be getting my lens on Thursday…I rented it from a place I rented a few years ago www.lensrental.com very cool place for those who are into photography, or want to get into it and want to test drive cool stuff. They will be delivering it to the hotel we are staying at in Sedona…YEAH! I am not crying anymore, but still laughing when I say POOOOOOOP!

Well, it has been a very long day, and I am turning in for the night…so until next Blog, have a great and blessed day / night.

A view from my seat...there is no law for Photo taking and driving is there?

The "Pose"

Bro Pose...even better than the single...

This is the 1st major switch back...this is about 200 yards into the walk, and is the beginning of the real decent into the canyon

The road down....
The road we just walked down...going up was worst!

Nicholas flexing on top of the world.

You know this Pose is everywhere...

The boy's want me to tell you all, I have "Boob" sweat!

The petrified logs are really something special to see...Many I think they placed as props, but the ones that are natural are really cool.

If you enlarge you will see the colors and details

"Old Faithful"  the largest petrified log in the park.
The "Pose" rears it's head everywhere!

This is a sand river.  Very strange to see...it was rather long too.

For the 3rd year the Feet have returned....

The Bro-Code 2012-D11...Always take a photo and make believe you are happy!

Nicholas reflecting what Rt. 66 was like...the telephone poles are still there and you can imagine what the old highway looked like

Motel in the movie "Cars"
It is 1 mile to the other end....REALLY LARGE!

You will need to click to enlarge. The patch of white is in the center of the crater in the image above...the fence is 6' high, and you can see a wooden cut out of an Astronaut….

Once again an...ABSOLUTELY BLESSED DAY!!!!!!
