2011 North West Adventure, Day 13

Day 13 July 15th 2011:

Good morning from the Oregon Coast in a town called Newport.

Yesterday was a grand day…we began by ATV’ing on the “Dunes”, and I have to say that was pretty fantastic. A little scary, because these dunes were really large, and the sand was extra soft…so getting stuck was not hard. In addition, some of the hills you needed to climb were fairly substantial in grade, and if you didn’t make it over, you were stuck, flipped, or worse…thank God, none of that happened, except a few “stuck” in the sands. The boys really enjoyed themselves, and I believe Patty really did once she knew the boys were safe. I thought it was a blast!

After that we drove up the coast on Rt. 101, which is very majestic with all the bluffs. The road is VERY narrow, and it is official…the drivers in Oregon are the 2nd worst if not equally as bad as in California, who still in my book are the worst! They really have no clue how to drive, and frankly other than my friend John and his family…YIKES…this is like being in California, very “off”…I swear it is like they are all stoned! If it were not for the un-believable scenery, I am not sure I would come back here. The coast and “Valley” seem very weird, but the mountains are a totally different feel, and we all liked that better.

On the way up the coast we stopped at Sea Lions Cave, and it was really cool. There were 200+ sea lions on a rock outside, and several hundred more inside of a cave 200 feet below the road. Really wicked to see and it was mating season so there was some noise going on…LOL!

After that we stopped at a Wal-Mart, and it was an experience, and I will leave it there, since I was taught if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t…so I won’t!

The day ended at what is called a Class “A” Motorhome Resort which is right on the bluffs. Our site is facing the ocean and it is a fantastic view. After a GREAT meal Patty cooked – she is really amazing how she takes care of us all…we strolled to the beach and ALL touch the Pacific –the last time we were on the West Coast in 2009, only the boys did – Nicholas has not let us live that down for 2 years…LOL. After a short time it started to rain, so we all b-lined it back to motorhome, but the rain didn’t stop Patty, and the boys from going for a swim…seems to be a theme…drive and swim.

It really has been a great trip so far and time is flying by and going slow at the same time which is great! Today we are not sure what we will be doing or where we will end up, since it is an un-planned free day…That’s right…FRED DID NOT PLAN a day!

Well…got to run, so until the next Blog…Please have a very Blessed Day, and we miss you all!

Let's Roll!

Even Dad got to play!

Don't leave home without Pringles!

The Boys....and our Pringles.

Me and my honey out for a romantic stroll

To give you a sense for how high these dunes are...that is Michael and Nicholas at the top.
