2011 North West Adventure, Day 14

Day 14 July 16th 2011:

Good evening from Cascade Locks, Oregon…around 200 miles south of Washington…our last state!

Today was a very mellow day. We all slept in and decided not to stay an extra day on the coast, for 2 reasons…One, it was very overcast and it rained all night and was looking like rain all day…second, the people around are just off…We all cannot explain it, but the feel is way off, so we decided to head back to the mountains.

We ran up the coast - which is really something to be seen - a little more than headed East towards Mt. Hood, and the scenic by-way that wraps around it. The weather was not the best, but the landscape opened back up again and the “feel” became like what it was when we first got into Oregon (pronounced Oregen…which EVERYONE here corrects you on). Even thought the landscape opened up, it didn’t fix how they all drive around here! BAD…The ride was not treacherous, and was really quiet pleasant, especially as we headed out of the Mt Hood forest and into the towns at the base, which are large Fruit and Wine farms, extremely gorgeous terrain. Once out of the farms we got onto the Columbia River Gorge scenic by-way which was again similar to Moab, running along a river. We are laying over tonight near a large waterfall which we will see tomorrow as well as Mt Saint Helen and then off to Washington. Semi long driving day, but we would like to get to Washington after spending 4 days in Oregon, which we have seen almost the whole state due to the way the roads are laid out. Very glad we saw this part of the country, but we are looking forward to our next stop.

On a side note, I failed to mention this a few days ago, but Idaho was one of the states you can see the Earth curve. I bring this up because there was a very short time today when we were at the summit of a mountain it got flat and you could ALMOST see it, but you couldn’t…so, so far out of the 47 states we have been in only 3 you can see the curve clear as day, North Dakota, Kansas, and now Idaho. Sorry for the digression!

Depending on the drive, I may not due a Blog until Monday…but we will see, so until next blog, please have a very Blessed Day!

This was the view from inside the motorhome this am..

The lighthouse you could see when you stepped outside the motorhome and walked a few feet...very cool view!

I just like this shot...
