Day 11 July 13th 2011:
Good morning from Diamond Lake, Oregon…this place is EXACTLY like Gran Teton, Wyoming. The campground is extremely tranquil and sits on a lake with looming mountains and dense pine trees.
Yesterday was a great day! We hung out with John D., his wife Jan, and their sons Noah and Elijah. If you recall John was the Service Manager for Country Coach, and he is really the best in the business when it comes to our coach. He taught me a great deal today, and made several minor repairs. All along, Patty and Jan chatted about everything under the sun. The boys played with their dog Blue and the Hens, roosters, and Chickens, especially Harriett, who Nicholas wanted to take home.
After I drove John nuts for several hours with questions, we called it a day around 3:00pm, and then left John and Jan’s house – Jan was mad since she wanted us to stay for dinner…sorry Jan – and headed for Crater Lake. The lake is inside the remains of a Volcano at 9,000 feet, and the drive up was incredible, white knuckle driving similar to Yellowstone. HUGE several thousand foot drops off of the side of an eroding road. The mountain was still covered in snow, and not a little. It actually made the Snowy Pass from last week look like a dusting of snow. There were several feet as you can see in the images, and it was absolutely FREEZING! However, I believe this National Park is my favorite…Ok, they are all special in their own way, and each have a tranquil feel that unless you see it I will do the beauty barely any justice.
Due to the snow several of the roads were closed and we couldn’t get around the whole lake, but what we saw left us all in utter awe. Majestic flowing fields covered in snow and pine trees, with massive Mountains still capped in white. The lake was the bluest blue we have ever seen and is simply breathtaking. This is an absolute MUST see National Park!
Tomorrow we stop at Country Coach to see where our baby was born. Then off to the Dunes for ATV’ing.
So until the next Blog, please have a Blessed Day!
Nicholas's new friend....
Going up was treacherous...around this curve was a few thousand foot drop..and the road was eroding.
This was coming back the other way and was better because all the drops were on the opposite side of the motorhome
Michael's favorite pose!
