2011 North West Adventure, Day 9

Day 9 July 11th 2011:

Good morning from Caldwell Idaho…Seems like an eternity since I was showered in 30 Gallons of Diesel, but it was only 7 days ago, and we are now knocking on the Pacific coast once again. The trip today was uneventful and filled with unbelievable sights and landscape. Just when I think it can’t get bigger…BAM we enter Idaho. This is like Montana…VERY BIG! The varying landscapes kept the drive interesting, but very easy to do 75 – 80 mph so the 300 miles flew by. There is a TON to do here, and is a state we now have on our growing lists of places to re-visit…

We did make one stop at Promontory, the Golden Spike National Park! Where the 2 railroads met and connected. It was totally corny, but very cool to see. This place was in the middle of NO WHERE! It must have taken weeks to get there by horse back in 1869…The reason we ended up here, was Michael learned of this in history this year and when he saw we could get here it wasn’t an option…the irony is across the way – less than 2 miles - is the Rocket Test site for the booster rockets used on the canceled Space Shuttle program. Talk about time warps…

Well, today we go see a friend of mine in Oregon and then off to Crater lake then to the Dunes on the Pacific Coast…

So until the next blog, please have a Blessed day!

The Golden Stake...actually a replica

Exact position of the trains back in 1869, and exact replications of the original trains

Boy's still being boys....

Becoming a habit with us and doing a shoe shot...LOL

This is coming out of the Golden Spike Park and looking at the Rocket Test site..

Right next to the Golden Spike...time warp if ever there was one.

Big and Vast....Rt 84 heading West

Another Blessed Day....
