Day 10 July 12th 2011:
Good morning from La Pine, Oregon…we have now traveled 3,600 miles, and are 1 state away from being in all the lower 48! The journey has been long but fun and the boys have been troopers.
Yesterday was a 350 mile trip through Idaho and the middle of Oregon. Oregon is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and is truly a mix of every state we have been in. We drove on RT. 20, which is a 2 lane highway through desert, mountain, and everything in between. There was even a Badlands area that was very rocky, and a stretch that ran along a river and was extremely similar to the by-way in Moab, which is still one of my favorite roads in America.
We ended the drive by going through Bend, which is very much like a ski resort, artsy and free sprit style..aka LIBERAL area…LOL! All kidding aside, a very nice area, town and warm feeling all and all in this state so far.
Directly after Bend, Michael had found a scenic pass called Cascade Lake, and was 50 miles out of the way, but was worth every mile. Very Yosemite style with HUGE pine trees, and then like Yellowstone, with glades and lakes. At the 8,000 foot summit, the area was covered with snow still and it is weird to see snow in July, and we have seen a ton of it the past week!
We ended the day by getting to John Davis, the ex-Country Coach Service Manager who now has his own business at his house. We were here last night and will be getting some odd and ends done on the motorhome today since he knows these machines inside and out…
While the coach is getting worked on we will all be chill-axing, and no driving…YEAH!
Another lake at high altitude...oh yes and Nicholas took this
These trees were at least 5' wide....
A very Blessed day!
